Cyndi Lauper Nomindated for Induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

by cyndilauper February 2, 2023
written by cyndilauper

Cyndi Lauper, a renowned singer-songwriter and beloved pop culture figure, is up for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This announcement celebrates the four decades of major influence that this musician has had on the music industry and popular culture.

In 1983, Cyndi Lauper made an iconic entrance into the music scene with her album “She’s So Unusual” and its hit singles: “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” “Time After Time,” and “She Bop.” Her sound was a blend of punk, new wave, and pop which gave birth to a catchy, fun, and empowering atmosphere that was unparalleled at that time. The accompanying music videos fully expressed this newfound sound. Through her iconic voice, trend-setting style, and audacious personality, Cyndi Lauper quickly became one of the most creative and inspiring musicians of her time.

Throughout her career, Cyndi Lauper has experimented with various musical genres and styles as she continued to evolve as an artist. In 1986, she partnered with the renowned John Williams to create the soundtrack for “The Goonies.” Then, seven years later, she unveiled her more emotional “Hat Full of Stars” album, where she highlighted her songwriting abilities and touched upon issues such as self-reflection and social justice. Recently, she has returned to her blues and country origins with albums like “Detour” and “Memphis Blues.”

In addition to her impressive music career, Cyndi Lauper has been an active supporter of various social and political causes. She has been an advocate for LGBTQ rights and has raised awareness and funds for organizations that provide resources to the LGBTQ community. She has been an outspoken advocate for human rights organizations and has shared her platform to draw attention to crucial causes like homelessness, human trafficking, and animal welfare.

Cyndi Lauper is deserving of being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as a tribute to her accomplishments in the music industry and her influence on popular culture. For decades, her music has been cherished and celebrated by millions of people globally, even inspiring other artists. No matter what you appreciate about her, from her early pop hits to her blues and country recordings and her charitable works, it is undeniable that Cyndi Lauper is a truly remarkable and talented artist who deserves recognition for all she has accomplished.

Summing up, Cyndi Lauper’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame attests to her ongoing influence on music and pop culture. The influence of her music, activism, and charitable works will remain long after she is gone and continue to inspire generations of artists and followers. I wish for her to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, honoring her legacy for generations to come.

The Story Behind the Cover – She’s So Unusual

Cyndi Lauper

Design by Janet Perr

The primary color-rich cover of Lauper’s debut perfectly caught her bubbly persona.

“Cyndi kept saying how she wanted peeling paint and walls that looked distressed,” recalls designer Janet Perr, “and I thought Coney Island. I knew that there were a lot of abandoned, boarded up buildings there. And of course, because it was by the beach, the lighting would be really beautiful.

“We were on the boardwalk with a boom box, and Cyndi had on a great vintage dress, and she was dancing with her shoes off. She was really like that – flouncy and jumping around – and I think that really came out in the photo shoot.”

Annie Leibovitz snapped Lauper in a pose like a new wave marionette.

The result: 16 million albums sold and a Grammy for design to Perr. “It was a great thing for me,” Perr recalls, “because the Rolling Stones called the week after.”

Cyndi Lauper’s musical ‘Kinky Boots

by cyndilauper November 25, 2022
written by cyndilauper

Have you heard the one about the drag queen and the shoemaker? Those are the central characters in the cult 2005 British comedy Kinky Boots, the latest movie to get the Broadway jazz-hand treatment. With music and lyrics by ’80s pop star Cyndi Lauper and a book by Newsies‘ Harvey Fierstein, the eccentric transatlantic export is set to head to the Great White Way in spring 2013 — but you don’t have to wait until then to hear what Lauper has up her legwarmer!

EW has an exclusive first listen of “Sex Is in the Heel,” the first song released from Lauper’s debut theatrical score. The song will be available for free download starting June 22 at 10:30 a.m. on the show’s official website. If you prefer a live rendition, Lauper will perform the song at this Sunday’s New York Pride Parade (where she’ll serve as Grand Marshal). Get your first earful of a remixed version of “Sex” below!

STAGE: Get the latest news, photos, and more
In Kinky Boots, a sassy drag queen named Lola becomes the unlikely savior for Charlie Price, a shoemaker whose family business is falling flat. Lola shakes things up when she sashays into Charlie’s life and inspires him to transform his shoe line into fetish footwear for transvestites, revitalizing both the business and the entire community.
Tony winner Jerry Mitchell (Legally Blonde) will direct and choreograph the show, which will play Chicago’s Bank of America Theatre from October 2 through Nov. 4, 2012, in anticipation of a Broadway opening in 2013.

Cyndi was Correct During a Conversation with Mr. Trump

by cyndilauper May 5, 2010
written by cyndilauper

One of our readers just sent an interesting e-mail in regards to a conversation between Donald Trump and Cyndi during the Celebrity Apprentice. Most of you probably remember when Mr. Trump corrected Cyndi’s sentence. Here in an interesting explanation that one of our female readers wrote:

I heard Mr. Trump correct you on the show last Sunday night when you said, “I feel bad….” I think you should tell him HE WAS WRONG! YOU WERE RIGHT. See below.

Bad vs. Badly
Often I hear the word “badly” used incorrectly. For example, “I feel badly for him because he didn’t make the cut.” Most grammarians believe that this statement is incorrect. In this case bad is an adjective that we use with the linking verbs: feel, is, seems, looks, or appears.

To feel badly implies that your sense of touch is not right. When you are referring to a sense of touch, then badly is used as an adverb describing the verb to feel or touch.

The correct way to say the sentence is, “I feel bad for him because he didn’t make the cut.”
